Travel with me!: A day trip to JAX

What’s up dudes! It’s been soooo long. Sorry about that. I’m sort of drowning in school work, trying to be a good global citizen, and also trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating less meat and exercising super consistently. I think there’s a meme about that somewhere…

But anyways, since I technically should not be writing this and should be working on my school assignments, I thought I’d post a quick guide for an awesome day trip to Jacksonville, Florida. If you know me, you know I’m not the biggest fan of Florida… I mean I don’t hate it.. but if I had to chose between love and hate, I’d choose hate LOL.

Nevertheless, Jacksonville is one of the few places that I don’t loathe, and am rather fond of. So if you’re looking for a quick day trip, here’s a nice little guide, planned out for your convenience.

To make it even more convenient, this trip is primarily centered around 5Points, so there isn’t much driving that you have to do, once you are there.

1. Start your day with an amazing brunch at The Black Sheep.

I’ll just let these pics do the talking…

It’s reasonably priced, ANDDD it’s farm to table. What more could you ask for?

2. Weather permitting, you can take a trip over to the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, to walk of that massive brunch.

To see the art exhibit as well as the gardens, it’s just $6 with your student ID.

(LOL to that dog…)

We visited the gardens in early March, so a lot of the plants were just starting to bud. I think if you take a trip in late April through summer, they are really beautiful.

3. So now you’ve walked off your food baby and need a bit of a pick-me-up, as the “itis” has settled upon you. You can head on over to Brew. The description of this coffee shop is “Minimalist storefront coffee shop & bar offering espresso drinks, gourmet toasts & microbrews.” Well, what more could one ask for? My personal favorite is the cafe mocha. Anything with chocolate in it, count me in!

Oh, and did I mention they are gender forward!

4. If you’re like me, you like to follow-up your coffee with a bit of dessert. And if that’s the case, ohh are you in for a real treat. MotionSweets take dessert to another level. Owned by this adorable couple, each day they bake fresh heavenly goods, ranging from cookies to cinnamon rolls. If passing by, you won’t be able to resist since the smell is identical to your grandma’s baking, multiplied by fifty-‘leven. But be sure to get there earlier in the day because they sell out quickly!

5. After getting your coffee and dessert, you can walk around, hit up some of the local boutiques and enjoy the street art. It’s super hipster.

6. Next, the true reason I go to Jacksonville, my one true love, the unbeatably yummy, devine, delicious, food-gasm causing, Hawkers Asian Street Fare. This place thoooooo. No! It’s literally the devil because no food should be so delicious. And there’s so many things to choose from! You can easily spend a good half hour trying to decide. It’s super cool because it originated from street-cart-food, and the most successful recipes are the ones that made it to the restaurant. It’s like if a bunch of Thai and Korean gurus got together and imparted divine knowledge on the human race. That is the goodness of this restaurant. If you ever have the pleasure of eating there, you have to have the ginger cheesecake, the pad thai, and the twice fried wings…. and the lettuce wraps…… and the everything! SO, yea. Good luck with that!

(Don’t mind the dusty phone pics at the end. I didn’t have my real camera with me.)

7. Lastly, you can finish the night off at Alewife Craft Beer Bottle Shop. The servers here reallllly know beer and you’re guaranteed to find something that you like. The prices are great and the feature beers on draft from all across the U.S. And it’s also pet friendly, so you can’t beat that.

So there ya have it. As usual, I should have said this was an eating tour of Jacksonville, FL… b/c that’s pretty much what I go on vacation to do.

Hope you enjoy, and hopefully this motivates you to make the trip there!

And as always, #sharingiscaring ❤
